Canterbury plans for frequent rocket launches

A plan for a new spaceport in Canterbury could see rockets launching up to a dozen times each year. The site will include a rocket pad built to NASA standards.

The proposed spaceport features a 30m by 30m rocket pad located about 10km from State Highway 75, beside Lake Ellesmere Te Waihora. This ambitious initiative aims to position New Zealand as a player in the global space industry.

With the facility designed to support multiple launches annually, the initiative reflects growing interest in space exploration and technology within Aotearoa. This could lead to new economic opportunities and advancements in various scientific fields.

The project aligns with international standards, boosting confidence in the safety and reliability of the proposed operations. It is a significant step forward for the country's aspirations in aerospace innovation.
